Budget
The film was released on 25 July 2014 and became a massive box office success, grossing over $463 million, more than eleven times the budget of $39 million.
Entertainment Value
Documentary scenes appeared in the middle of the movie, so it was very fresh in the beginning. In many cases, though, the story doesn't match and the movie leaves out details because the director wants to show and mean a lot, or he chooses a difficult topic of which there is no scientific consensus. This movie is not a simple action movie or science fiction movie, it is fresh in many ways, and I have never approached the subject, and the actors' performances also made me immersed in the movie, so it is a good movie except for the disappointing ending in the second half.
Critic's Review
Critical reviews were generally positive but polarized. Despite the praise, it received for its themes, visuals, and Johansson's performance, many critics thought the plot was nonsensical, especially its focus on the ten percent of the brain myth.
In Rotten tomatoes critic review, "Johansson, a good actress, succeeds in making this nonsense more believable than it otherwise might be." (David Stratton)
- It has scored 66% on Rotten tomatoes
- scored on 61% Metacritic and 6.4/10 on IMDb
